I am dedicated, hardworking and adaptable to a variety of roles. I believe in a “Hands on” approach to problem solving with the ability to analyse a situation quickly and accurately, then deal with it in the most appropriate way. My demeanour is always calm, with a manner that is reassuring to both clients and colleagues alike. I am able to work individually, as a team member or project leader with the ability to take charge of any given situation.
In April 2005, after spending two years as a self employed contractor to Scitec Group, I joined the company as a full time employee charged with the role of formalising the service and support aspect of the business and running the small technical team. Scitec Group are an IT VAR with a number of channel partnership relationships including HP, IBM, Cisco, and Microsoft.
During my time under contract to Scitec I migrated the in-house accounts system (Sage Line 50) to Datafile, including all the data conversion and analysis of the business process models and their implementation as procedures within the Datafile System.
Offering project management, consultancy, system requirements analysis, web design, installations, cabling and software support.
Clients included my
previous full time employer - Blue-i, who recognized that although I was
no longer employed by them, they still needed to have the support for
their systems that I was able to provide.
Fone Range (UK) Plc was a mobile phone accessories distribution company that supplied directly to the trade. Ranked 27th in The Times 100 fastest growing companies list in December 2000, and won Best Mobile Accessories Company at MobilExpo 2000. The CEO and MD jointly won the London regional heat of the Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award 2000. At the end of the financial year in March 2000 the company reported a turnover of £13m and employed over 150 staff. Initially reporting to the Operations Director, then later directly to the MD.
Up until September 2000 I was the sole member of the Information Systems department, at which point I was able to select and recruit a trainee to assist me.
I was also responsible for the strategic Information Systems planning, particularly it’s relevance from a business perspective, and it’s impact on business and operational processes.
During my time there
I also implemented an Accounts and Distribution system using Datafile
for one of the company's subsidiaries. Working closely with the Finance
Director of the subsidiary company we were able to implement a fully working
system well within deadline.
As a result of a severe downturn across the whole cellular phone and accessories industry Fone Range (UK) Plc became over exposed to the overheads of its recent rapid expansion and in the early part of 2001 the company went into Administration.
In March 2001, Blue-i (International) Ltd (a subsidiary of Fone Range), restructured to enable it to continue as an independent business entity. Blue-i took over the parent company’s premises and offered continuation of contracts to a select number of staff. My role there was essentially the same as Fone Range (UK) Plc, although there were fewer staff and computers to administer and support.
During the transition I was responsible for reorganising the I.T. infrastructure to fit the new company and also designed two websites for the company, www.blue-i.com and www.idyourface.com.
Software Connection are a small company specialising in systems consultancy, implementation and contract support. Duties involved providing a full technical helpdesk to all the company’s clients, supporting them in a full range of desktop applications, server operating systems and primarily the Datafile Software range of financial management systems, including their on site installation, configuration and ongoing administration.
small size provided me with a great deal of experience in a full range
of IT responsibilities, from basic support through to consultancy meetings,
systems analysis and preparing complete solution proposals.
Working in this environment taught me extremely good communication skills. This proved invaluable to co-ordinate efforts efficiently as part of a team, and to report to non-technical people such as Finance or Managing Directors. In addition, it provided clients with the reassurance that their problems were being handled with the utmost urgency and attention to detail. The role also developed my ability to effectively manage my time, to prioritise calls, delegate where appropriate, and to make the most of the resources available.
